Synopsis
The story is about Michael Berg, a German lawyer who had a relationship with an older woman, Hanna, when he was a teenager. Years later, Hanna reappears as a defendant in a war crimes trial, and Michael discovers that she is illiterate and might be hiding it to protect herself.
