Synopsis
Engineer Giorgio Rosa created the "Isle of Roses" in 1968 as a self-governing state on a platform near Rimini, using Esperanto as its official language. Italian authorities were displeased because they believed it was a ploy to avoid paying taxes from tourists visiting.
