Battlefield

During the First World War in Northern Italy, Dr. Stefano Zorzi works in a clinic caring for soldiers. He fights against those faking illness or self-harming to avoid duty. His friend, Dr. Giulio Farradio, purposely makes soldiers sick to help them escape military service. Their rivalry intensifies when they both become involved with the nurse Anna and is complicated by the Spanish fever epidemic of 1918, blurring the lines between love, politics, and science.
