Synopsis
In 1863, a Mississippi farmer named Newt Knight serves as a medic in the Confederate Army. Disillusioned with slavery, he chooses to protect his family in Jones County. Branded an outlaw, he joins runaway slaves in the swamps and leads a rebellion against the Confederacy.
